Finding care

# What changes when the visit is online?

Telehealth is care when you and the person caring for you are in different places. The screen changes the setting; your medical question still needs an assessment.

## Your location belongs in the conversation

Evidence note

### Care follows the patient

As of September 28, 2026, Nevada treated medical care as occurring where the patient was located during the visit.

Nevada law: medical practice

For online care while you are in Nevada, the person caring for you needed a valid Nevada license or certificate for their profession, as checked September 28, 2026. A special Nevada telemedicine license is one way to have that permission; it is not an extra license everyone needs.

Ask which Nevada license or certificate covers your visit, then check the current record with that board.

### What if I am traveling?

Tell the service where you will be for the visit. Ask it to confirm that the named person caring for you can assess you there.

## Plain words for the kind of visit

Live visit

You and the person caring for you talk at the same time. A service may call that a synchronous visit.

Later review

You send information and the person caring for you reads it at another time. The term for that is asynchronous care.

Evidence note

### Phone care has a condition

Nevada’s definition of telehealth included phone-only care but did not include fax or email, as checked September 28, 2026.

Nevada law: care across locations

Starting care by phone or online still had to suit the medical assessment needed under Nevada law, as checked September 28, 2026.

Allowing phone care does not mean a phone call is enough to decide on every prescription.

Ask what can be assessed by phone and what would need an examination or a test before a decision.

## Ask how the assessment continues

Ask how you can add a detail after submitting your history. Ask how you can put your own question to the person caring for you.

Evidence note

### A menu is not an assessment

A menu choice without medical assessment was improper care; the Federation of State Medical Boards took that position in its May 2026 guidance.

Medical boards: prescribing guidance

State licensing boards make up the federation. Its recommendations are not themselves Nevada law, as checked September 26, 2026.

Before any treatment decision, ask how the service reviews your health history and gives you a chance to raise questions.

### What if the assessment needs more than a screen?

The federation’s guidance calls for arranging needed tests or in-person follow-up when the medical assessment requires them.
